Bath Night
Larry -
Today was a sad day for all. Laura's Dad left to go back to Minnesota. We've really enjoyed having him visit. On a positive note we experienced a minor miracle. There was a torrential downpour in Knoxville today and Larry's flight still appears to have left on time.
Laura -
Laura spent today diaper changing, baby feeding and bottle washing (actually my job ... whoops!).
John -
John has discovered "Monk" on cable.
Chippy -
Chippy is giving the "crabby face" to Laura today. She definitely has a mind of her own. Laura is trying to keep her on a rotating feed time, wake time, sleep time schedule. Chippy favors the sleep time, sleep time, sleep time approach.
Jack -
Although Jack seems to have the feed time portion of the schedule down, he tends to merge the wake time with the sleep time, especially when he gets to sit in his favorite swing. We're still working out the bugs in the system.
Lucy -
Lucy has taken to lounging on the kid's play mat on the floor. I'm told that today she is showing more of an interest in the Peanuts. She actually licked Chippy on the lips. I'm not sure who got the raw end of that deal since Lucy has a habit of eating you know what and Kaelin is having issues keeping the milk down. It's not a pretty picture any way you paint it.
Well, I have to go. Tonight is bath night which like most things with twins is a team sport. Here are some videos to pass the time ...

Technical Difficulties
The Peanuts -
Laura and John (and sometimes even I) have taken to calling the twins "the peanuts". Had we not have purchased a dog prior to having babies I'm pretty sure they would have been called "the Bugs". Yesterday was doctor day. They had several shots each. I'm honeslty not sure of the details ... Mommy's job. I know they did not like them and we had them taking Tylenol last night to keep the fever down. So far so good. The Tylenol appears to have a side benefit of making them sleep more. Last night was probably the best sleep night on record. They slept from 7PM to 11PM (had to wake them) then to 4AM and then again to 7AM. March 17, 2008 will be a date that goes down in infamy as the night that the Peanuts slept.
Kaelin has two very small cysts on her brain that if I'm honest are concerning me a bit even though the doctors say that these will "most likely clear up on their own". They are still calling them grade 1 cysts which means if they were much smaller they would not be able to notice them at all. We have another ultrasound in a month.
The Schedule -
March 19 - Laura's Dad leaves
March 25 - April 2 - Laura's Mom Visits
????? - Johnny Boy leaves
April 10 - 18 - Laura's Sister Becky Visits
April 19 - 26 - Peyton, Nate, and Andy visit (tentatively scheduled ... these boys have lives afterall)
May 12 - Laura goes back to work
The Video Camera -
I'm currently embroiled in an epic battle with out of date technology. We have circa 2005 video camera that has trapped all our video in its memory and is refusing to let it go. The problem is that it jumbles all the different videos in one big stream of data, making it too large (and too long) to post on the blog. The camera came with 5 different software packages, all of which seem to have been designed with the sole purpose of ticking me off. I've taken to downloading freeware from the internet. I'm throwing computer security to the wind. I'll load anything at this point ... destroy_your_computer.exe ... let's give it a whirl ... what, "this software has been known to kill laboratory rats" ... that's a chance I'm going to have to take. One video that I am particularly anxious to get out on the blog (but has nothing to do with the babies) is of John attempting to fly. Attempting being the operative word here. Laura, Larry (Laura's Dad) and I watched the same 5 second clip over and over again on our television the other night. The clip is of John in a sky diving simulator basically floating in air and then - wait ... whoa ... whoa ... someone grab him, he's going to the roof ... wait he's loosing his balance ... is he supposed to be upside down? ... Did he just land on his head? - We all really enjoyed this video (John excepted) and I'm pretty sure you will too ... if I can figure out this technology.

Changing of the Guard ... Again
Johnny boy a.k.a. the house manager -
John has been helping us keep the wheels on things for the past 6 weeks ... or so. He has been cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, changing diapers, doing laundry, blogging and most importantly Bug watching (he has become a regular at the dog park). He has been a great help. This weekend he is getting a much needed and deserved break. Tomorrow he and I will head to Gatlinburg for a day of fine dining, outlet mall shopping and sky diving. Sunday he and his Dad will be watching Nascar at the Bristol race track.
Recently a little birdy (Laura) told me that the one task that we have delegated to John that he dislikes more than any other, even worse that emptying the diaper champ I'm told, is updating the blog. So Johnny boy, this one's for you. As of today I will take responsibility for keeping this thing reasonably up to date. So here we go ...
Laura a.k.a. the Mom -
Laura is doing well ... I think. Most of our meaningful conversation as of late has been about the basic bodily functions of Jack and Kaelin (and occasionally Lucy). But this much I know from watching her ... she is a great Mom. We did get to go out together tonight for the third time since we have been out of the hospital. We ate at a nice restaurant, bought some diapers and baby wipes and stopped by Maggie Moos for some Choco-mallow. We had a good time laughing about how much we took for granted all those evenings out pre-J&K. Someone (who will remain nameless ... OK it was me) actually tossed out the idea of leaving the country. We were home by 8PM.
Jack a.k.a. Racoon Jack -
His Mom wanted to call him Opossum Jack because he likes to sleep during the day and stay up all night (pre-baby wise that is ... THANKS Erin!). However, I had to veto that idea. A name like that could stick! So for now we settled on Racoon Jack because racoons are nocturnal animals and in the off chance that the name sticks ... well he could do worse. Jack was having some problems sleeping at night but he seems to have turned that corner relatively quickly thanks to some good medicine from the doctor, some good advice from a friend and some good common sense on the part of his Mom. He's looking forward to seeing his cousins Grayson, Peyton, Nate and Andy. He feels he will benefit from the wisdom of their years. The latter three he likes to call Crazy Peyt, Nate the Great and Andy Dandy. He takes after his Momma in that way.
Kaelin a.k.a. Chippy Monkey (Chippy for short) -
Kaelin is rock solid. She sleeps during the night and saves most of her awake time for the days. I can tell already that she is going to be an independent little lady just like her Mother. She got the nickname for obvious reasons ... chubby cheeks. She is looking forward to meeting her Aunt's Becky and Liz and her cousin Michaela. She has it on very good authority that they are a very stylish group. However, her papa won't be letting her wear any Hollister (Holler!) any time soon.
Lucy Bug -
Between the midnight feedings (Lucy sleeps in our bed on Laura's feet), the daily one mile runs and the occasional visit to the dog park, Lucy is pretty much wiped out. She shows an occasional interest in the babies but quite frankly I think she is too tired to care all that much. She has taken to sleeping with her paws over her eyes. I assume that this is in an attempt to keep the light out of her eyes when we (Laura mostly) get up in the middle of the night. On occasion she will look up at me with disdain in her eyes when I walk by her in the middle of the night. If she could talk I think she would say something like ... "Can you PLEASE get control of your kids! Dogs are trying to sleep around here!". She's always had an attitude.
Coming Soon ... Videos of the past 10 weeks ... that is when I figure out how to get them from the video camera onto my PC.
